Four hours before Thursday night’s game with the Cardinals, the Dodgers completed a mandatory team workout at Busch Stadium held with a downtown temperature of 93 degrees and a heat index of 105. Outfielder Kyle Russell was promoted by the Dodgers from Single-A Inland Empire to Double-A Chattanooga. Russell hit .354 with 16 home runs and 53 RBIs in 53 games for the 66ers. In his last five games he hit .529 with four homers and 10 RBIs. — Ken Gurnick
Left-handed pitcher Scott Elbert was in the Dodgers clubhouse at Coors Field Friday and will be activated, but the club has not confirmed the move or announced a corresponding roster move. Elbert was a late scratch from his scheduled Friday night start for Triple-A Albuquerque, where he was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA. But he has allowed only four earned runs in his last 16 1/3 innings. Elbert was a candidate to win the fifth-starter job in Spring Training, but pitched poorly and was sent out in mid-March. Left-handers are hitting only .229 against Elbert, while right-handers are hitting .301.

The Dodgers made no roster move Monday, but both Rafael Furcal and Nick Green made the flight to Chicago on the travel day. Furcal apparently is ready to be activated from the disabled list after 3 1/2 weeks healing from a strained hamstring. Green was the infielder who replaced him. But if the Dodgers try to send Green back to the Minor Leagues, he must first clear waivers.
