Report Has Dodgers After Sherrill

If the Dodgers acquire a left-handed reliever before Friday’s trade deadline, it most likely will be Baltimore’s George Sherrill. They’ve been scouting him the past two weeks and the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that the Dodgers have backed away from talks for Indians starter Cliff Lee and are focusing on Sherrill. — Ken Gurnick

maybe they should revisit a deal for halladay or lee after billingsley’s 6th inning performance tonight.

  2. bpriestley32@yahoo.com

Come on its not panic time. Billingsley was fine tonight. He got squeezed to bot Ryan and Pujols in the sixth and it led to two walks. Not to mention Wainwrights seeing eye single for an added run. Sure it wasnt his finest inning but one inning for a 24 yr old pitcher is NO reason to panic

    BILINGSLEY TO CLEVELAND
CLIFF LEE, AND SHERRIL TO DODGERS
    3 DODGER PROSPECTS TO CLEVELAND
    1 PROSPECT TO ORIOLES

WE NEED A PITCHER WITH GUTS, AND BELIEVE THAT BILLINGSLEY HAS MADE IT CLEAR THAT IN TOUGH GAMES HE IS NOT THE MAN TO COUNT ON!

Come on now Billingsley has really shown what he can do for the Dodgers. He is a good fine young pitcher who knows how to throw a ball. He has been in a slump by only winning one out of his last 8 but he will soon come out of it and do what he is here for. And if the Dodgers are looking to acquire a pitcher, The only pitcher they should be chasin for is Roy Halladay, To get him i would probably say send kershaw down to toronto and mcdonald, and a good dodger prospect. Id say thats a fair even trade knowing what kershaw can do and he is only about 20 years old

THE PERFECT TRADE UNDER THE RADAR. trade loney + ethier + j-mac + any 3 top prospects 4 jake peavy + adrian gonzales + heath bell = CHAMIONSHIP adrian would replace loney at first + add a big bat behind manny pierre can play everyday and bell is the perfect set-up man for broxton and peavy the ace. padres get 6 future allstars and lower there budget.

Trade Billingsley, not Kershaw, for Halladay. Add Martin if needed to get Halladay. Otherwise, package prospects with Billingsley. If Toronto insists on trading V Martinez with Halladay, trade Loney along with Billingsley and Martin.

OOPS – too many beers, V Martinez is of course with Cleveland. Correction – if Dodgers can’t get Halladay, trade for Cliff Lee and give up Billingsley. Since Cleveland wants to unload V Martinez, trade for him and Lee by giving up Martin and Loney along with Billingsley. But first choice is Halladay deal.

I think it’s hilarious the trades some of you people come up with. Lets trade half of our team (which has gotten us where we are) for ONE pitcher. All because we’re in a little slump. You all should go apply for GM for the Giants!! You’re the same people that would complain and talk crap on our GM when that big name pitcher gets a HUGE contract from NY or Bos and we are left with nothing cause our entire future was traded away. Plus we wouldn’t win s*** this year cause half our team was gone. Stick with your day jobs.

  11. mattkemp1fan

what about martin and billingsley and a couple of prospects for VMartinez and Cliff lee. Then you can package some prospects for sherrill

If the Cardinals series has showed anything so far it is that the Dodgers need another power bat to drive in runs…. Cardinal’s pitchers shouldn’t be giving up 8 hits and 0 runs thats unheard of and to have that kind of situation happen two nights in a row… WOW… The pitchers will be ready come playoff time, but to think were going to win a world series with the bats we have now is pretty naive. I like the idea of shoring up the bullpen, but we really missed the boat on holliday, the Cardinals gave up hardly anything for him!

If any of you are old enough to remember, Sandy Koufax was a terrible pitcher the first couple of years in the majors. I bet the Dodgers were glad they didn’t trade him away because of a few bad outings!!!!! Go ahead, trade Billingsley and have him come up and beat you in the World Series. Then I can say, I told you so.

Anyone who has been really following this team knows they have NO ace, NO pitcher can or does go more than 5 or 6 innings; Billingley is highly over rated and would be Cy Young if the game goes 5 innings. Check his stats; look at the season. In the playoffs, the Dodgers will go one and out and its a shame they couldn’t get Lee. Leach is toast, Bellisario was used too much, so we need another bull pen arm. We play the Cards two games and scored one run! Oh well, at least we have Vinny for 2010!!

we get your point, mga55…. chill out.

and some of these trade scenarios you people have come up with are insanely laughable, especially the one involving the padres. i’m sorry but…. L M A O !!!

as for the rotation, i’m not sold on this rotation for the post-season. bills looked awful against phils last year in the NLCS (and he’s been awful in his last 8 starts… including yesterday when he walked 4 guys in one inning). kershaw is unproven in the post-season, so relying on him is a bit of a stretch. wolf has NEVER pitched in a post-season game in his 11 seasons in the majors. that leaves kuroda as the guy to lean on in the post-season? no wonder torre has been advocating to get another reliable, experienced veteran starter for the rotation…

[ MY OPINION] I am a die hard Dodger fan. But i am not feling too good about these 3 games we lost in a row. Everything is ok,but our pitching. Every good team has a one -two punch. We dont. We have Kershaw as # 2 and the rest are fours and fives. We need to bring in the guy everybody wants. This is our year. We have everything else from the owner to the bat boy. Bring in Halladay, Kershaw, Billingsley, kuroda. That would be the shot in the arm we all need. Thats my opinion.

I am Mr. Dodgers the guy who attends games with half his head blue and gray with Dodgers on one side and La on the other, I love my Dodgers and we do need help to the guys saying we need to trade with the Padres not. Yes Gonzales is Good and a great 1St baseman but we also have an awesome 1st baseman in James Loney. Peavy is not the same and we have a closer in Broxton so Heath Bell is out Beside we need slim strong guys not tow big guys as closers because if we bring Bell in Brox will question himself about his roll, and we don’t really need that do we? we do need Halladay but we DID miss the boat on Pedro that was our fault. I love Dre but we have four outfielders and two of the have been consistent even coming off the bench, so lets package up Dre, Macdonald and two prospects for Roy and also go after George Sherril as a fresh arm which we do need. So I hope I didn’t piss alot of people off but that is what I think SO about our slump this is the first time ALL YEAR we have lost three in a row I would hardly call that a slum. Bills will get better and Kershaw is da Bomb Maddux sucked his first couple years but Clay has a winning record so leave Clay alone and remember always GO BLUE and the jints suck

  31. scotdubh@yahoo.com

Ned coletti sucks……no big trades. WTF. I wonder if it is MC Broke telling him not to make trades. We couldn’t offer more than that for lee……the phillies stole him. I have been a dodger fan since I was 5 and if he doesnt get a starter, reliever, and another bat to come off the bench. I switching to the Phillies. With how high their attendance is why arent they spending more money?

  32. nydodgerfan78@yahoo.com

The dodgers need to accuire a starter who can go 7+ innings and give bullpen a break. Billingsley is solid but he’s not an ace and kershaw is still developing. Also I’d hate to see the dodgers trade loney because he’s a great glove and a clutch hitter at times, but we need a power bat at first. Cliff Lee is off the market, he’s over rated anyway, Halliday may be the answer, but at what cost? Matin, Loney and JMac are expendable. If a starter was have to go id hate to say it but billingsley, I think Kershaw has alot more potential and need to be kept. Billingsley is proven, JMac is a great prospect already with major league experience, throw in a nother piece and maybe halliday is obtainable. I only say this if halliday is willing to extend this contract once traded, no since trading all this talent for a year and a half. and What about loney to san diego for Gonzales? what do peep'[s think about that? these are just idea’s im not a GM nor am i pretending to be one like omar minaya!! LOL

Sherril to the Dodgers has merit to it. However Holladay for a couple of the young kids makes more sense since starting pitching needs help to make to the WS. Billingsley and a couple minor leaguer would be great trade bait to Holladay. Then a couple of young guns for Sherril

  34. jmfillman

I’m hopeful that the Dodgers won’t give up the future for a shot at this year. I’ve believed since Spring Training that they were a very good team, but were still short a couple pitchers to make it through to a World Series win. They have been building towards a World Series caliber team for then past 2-3 seasons, but it will probably take one more offseason, and a bit more money on good pitching AND the continued maturation of some of the promising young pitchers they have, in order to win it all. The key is that they should be in a position to win for the next 3-5 seasons, if they don’t cave and give up the strong core of Martin, Ethier, Kemp, Kershaw, and Billingsly. They should probably sign Hudson to an 2-3 year extension now too.

  35. smarchant22@yahoo.com

If I were Coletti I would dish up Billingsley, I have seen Kershaw improve too much lately, and personally I see a lot more potential in a hard throwing lefty, than I do with Billingsley. I agree that we need to get Sherril. And just as NYdodgers fan says, Halladay would be good for our staff, that is if we don’t get rid of them to get him. Package up Billingsley and Martin, who hasnt done anything since 07 I think it was. If that doesn’t work, see if we can find a way to get Victor Martinez. Perhaps offer Martin and a prospect? Martinez bat is clearly a vast improvement from Martins and will be great protection for Manny. If all else fails, perhaps aquiring Oswalt, if healthy. Otherwise, I’d say to ride out the season with the team that has us 8 games up in the division.

I can’t wait till august 1st. Hopefully by then all this talk of trading Bills for fill in the blank can stop. Are we seriously gonna give up on him now? I hope not. I think he and all of the young core that is our team have the chance to compete year in and year out.

  38. jaybaseball9

I don’t want to “compete year in and year out”. I want to win a World Series championship. We have had a great regular season and have a strong team but lack a good number one veteran pitcher that can go deep into games. Without giving up too much of the starting lineup, do what it takes to get Halladay. It is crazy to play for tomorrow when this is the best chance we have had in 21 years. Get Halladay now.

  39. rx.xc.ka@gmail.com

Elbert was scratched as the starter for the AAA Isoptopes today. Either he is going back up or getting traded. What do you guys think?

  40. matzacat@clearwire.net

NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE. THE DODGERS ARE STILL LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FOR NOTHING. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WON’T JUST GO OUT THERE, AND GET WHAT IS NEEDED TO WIN, AND GET TO THE WORLD SERIES. ALL THEIR PITHCHERS ARE WEAK, I LONG FOR THE DAYS WHEN THEIR PITCHERS COULD GO MORE THAN 5
    INNINGS….
