Torre Clears Bench

Manager Joe Torre’s lineup for Sunday’s Dodgers game with the Marlins has all four of his bench players starting. Mark Loretta plays third base and bats second, Brad Ausmus catches and bats sixth, Xavier Paul plays right field and bats seventh and Juan Castro plays shortstop and bats eighth. Not starting are regulars Casey Blake, Russell Martin, Andre Ethier and Rafael Furcal. — Ken Gurnick

Repko Injury Not Serious

The hamstring injury suffered by Triple-A Albuquerque outfielder Jason Repko is not as serious as originally believed and he could return to action in 10 days, according to trainer Stan Conte. Repko injured his left hamstring, but in a different place than the injury that required surgery and sidelined him the entire 2007 season. Jamie Hoffman, called up from Double-A Chattanooga to replace Repko, was hitting .294 in five games. — Ken Gurnick

Manny, Team Meet

Suspended outfielder Manny Ramirez held a brief meeting with his Dodgers teammates and uniform staff Friday afternoon at the team hotel in Miami. The Dodgers play the Florida Marlins Friday night to open a three-game series and Ramirez has a home in South Florida. Ramirez was suspended May 7 for violating MLB’s drug policy and this was his first face-to-face meeting with the entire club. The meeting lasted less than 10 minutes. He has telephoned several teammates since the suspension was handed down. Ramirez is not expected at Friday night’s game and it is not known when he will rejoin the club for workouts, which he is allowed to do as long as he is out of uniform when the stadium gates open. — Ken Gurnick

Scoring Change Benefits Wolf’s ERA

There’s been a change from the Dodgers’ 5-4 loss at San Francisco on April 27.  Edgar Renteria’s one-out double in the first inning has been changed to an error on right fielder Andre Ethier.  Ethier bumped into center fielder Matt Kemp, who dropped the ball.  The play led to three runs in the inning off left-hander Randy Wolf.  All three runs are now unearned, and Wolf’s ERA entering tonight’s game is 3.19. — Ken Gurnick

Paul Gets the Call

The Dodgers recalled outfielder Xavier Paul to replace the suspended Manny Ramirez. Paul was batting .344 with nine doubles, two homers and 14 RBIs in 25 games at Triple-A Albuquerque. He was 8-for-10 in steals. He’ll wear No. 3. — Ken Gurnick

Abreu Activated

Tony Abreu has returned from his latest injury and reported to Double-A Chattanooga. Abreu, who missed last year with hip surgery, suffered a bad ankle sprain the last week of Spring Training. — Ken Gurnick

Kuroda Tosses, But Not for Long

For the third consecutive day, disabled pitcher Hiroki Kuroda played catch on flat ground in the outfield with trainer Stan Conte, but the session stopped after only a handful of throws. Kuroda said he was told to cut it off and preserve himself for Thursday, when he would throw farther with more intensity. Manager Joe Torre said if Kuroda’s progress continues, he could be only days away from starting to throw from a mound. Kuroda has been disabled since April 7 with a strained oblique muscle. — Ken Gurnick

Schlichting Returns

Right-handed reliever Travis Schlichting, limited to one perfect inning in a “B” game this Spring because of a bulging disk in his lower back, saw his first game action Tuesday night with 2 2/3 innings of perfect relief for Double-A Chattanooga. Before he was injured, Schlichting was considered by some in the organization as having a chance to help the Major League club  before the season is over. — Ken Gurnick

Torre Says Bullpen Ready

Manager Joe Torre said only Cory Wade is unavailable for Tuesday night’s Dodgers game against Arizona. Jeff Weaver will start for the Dodgers with a pitch-count target of 75, meaning Torre is likely to go to the bullpen early. His long man will be James McDonald, whose place in the rotation Weaver is taking.

Torre also said Jason Schmidt threw 100 pitches in an extending Spring Training game Monday, will have a bullpen session Wednesday, and that could lead to a Minor League rehab assignment. — Ken Gurnick
