Stults Scratched; Move Likely

Eric Stults was scratched from today’s start, with indcations the Dodgers are about to move him. Stults is out of options and there have been indications of interest in him from teams in Japan. Stults, saying goodbye to teammates in the clubhouse, said he was told by his agent not to say anything to the media. He was in the running for fifth starter. He was 8-10 in 35 games over parts of the past four seasons.

No surprise here, it didn’t look like there was much interest from Torre. Stults has always been a favorite of mine.

Unfortunately this is another DJ Houlton as far as I’m concerned. They kept Stults around long enough to be insurance and never really gave him a shot in the last few years. His first three starts this spring were all lights out including the Taiwan start and then he had one bad start no worse than the one I saw Padilla throw in person against the Padres and he is out and off to Japan. He got one more inning in a minor league game then.

I’ve been a Dodger fan since the late 60’s and this is another disappointment. When they didn’t sign a “real” pitcher in the off season I thought that was the plan to let Stults start.

I’m sorry to see Stults go. He sort of reminds me of Tom Glavine. He was never allowed to settle in to the rotation. I wish him all the best and will support him in the future.
